Southwest China's Yunnan Province has established a fund to provide rewards to brave individuals who voluntarily risk personal safety to maintain public security.
Preparations for the Public Security Volunteers Foundation began in July this year. Up to now, about 22.8 million yuan (US$2.75 million) has been donated by local companies or individuals, according to local officials.
In the past five years, the province has honored 51 people for their bravery as provincial models and seven as national models.
Similar foundations have also been established in other provincial areas of the country.
