The Chinese capital plans to build more bases for producing safe agricultural products this year.
According to plan, the city will build another 100 bases for manufacturing safe edible produce and 100 pilot bases with standardized production of agricultural products within the year.
The city will work out strict safety and hygiene standards for farm produce covering vegetables, fruits, cereals, meat, eggs, milk and fish. The city will also establish safety standards for the use of fodder, fertilizer, pesticides and animal medicines, and technical standards for the prevention of pests and diseases, hygiene and disease control and pollution-free agricultural products, according to an official with Beijing Municipal Bureau for Quality and Technology Supervision.
The official said Beijing had established 91 municipal-level, and five district- and county-level standards for agricultural operations by the end of last year. The city had also established six state-level and four city-level pilot zones for standardization of agricultural operations.
The municipal government has attached great importance to building a production system for safe farm produce. At present, the city has 221 authorized production bases for safe farm produce.
