The railway line linking central China's Hunan Province with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south China was blocked early Sunday as a result of a landslide in Yongfu County near the scenic city of Guilin in Guangxi.
The blockage has affected passenger trains including one from Shanghai, China's largest industrial center, to Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province.
Leading local officials, military soldiers and railway workers rushed to the scene to arrange the removal of the debris.
The railway track has been buried by 5,000 cubic meters of mud and rocks. If no further landslides occur, the line is expected to be cleared by early Monday morning, rescuers said.
