The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of Hong Kong has confirmed that the Oriental Magpie Robin found earlier in Cheung Sha Wan was H5N1 positive after a series of laboratory tests.
The bird carcass was found and collected on Feb. 10 at Cheung Sha Wan Wholesale Food Market. The Oriental Magpie Robin is a common resident bird in Hong Kong.
A department spokesman on Friday reminded people to observe good personal hygiene.
"They should avoid personal contact with wild birds or live poultry and clean their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them," he said.
