The US Navy's nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and five other ships of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group arrived in Hong Kong on Monday morning for a scheduled port visit.
"Hong Kong is a favorite place for our sailors to visit," said Rear Admiral Terry Blake, commander of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group. "The crew members always enjoy a visit to this city. They like to experience the culture."
During its scheduled port visit, about 5,000 crew members of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group will have the chance to experience local customs and traditions in Hong Kong, Blake said.
The ships that arrived in Hong Kong with USS Nimitz included several guided-missile destroyers; USS John Paul Jones, USS Chafee, USS Pinckney and USS Higgins, as well as the guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton.
The USS Nimitz is the US Navy's first Nimitz class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. It was commissioned in May 1975.
