HK Commemorates Victory of Anti-Japanese War

Hong Kong Overseas Chinese General Association held a meeting Saturday to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

About 200 representatives in Hong Kong and from the Chinese mainland attended the meeting to review the history of the war and show respect to those who made contributions or even sacrificed their lives to the victory in the war against Japanese aggression.

Director Ku Suensai of the association said that overseas Chinese had made great contributions to the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

"Reviewing the history of the war would make people cherish the peaceful life today," he added.

A number of representatives told stories on how overseas Chinese and foreign citizens of Chinese descent supported the motherland in resisting Japanese aggressors.

Cao Zhuokun, former member of an anti-Japanese union of overseas Chinese in Myanmar, briefed the meeting of how overseas Chinese carried out resistance activities in Myanmar.

"Overseas Chinese did what they could by donating money and goods to support the war against Japanese aggression," he said, hoping younger generations would remember the history and be alert about the militarism in Japan today.

Representatives from the Chinese mainland, Thailand and Indonesia also told stories about overseas Chinese in the war against the Japanese aggression.
