Slovenian Mountaineer Dies While Climbing Qomolangma

The Tibetan sports administration confirmed Tuesday that a Slovenian mountaineer died Saturday on Mount Qomolangma, the highest peak of the world.

The administration received the reports from the Qomolangma Base Camp that Lihteneker Marko, a member of the Russian mountaineering team, died on May 21 on the world's highest mountain at the altitude of 8,800 meters.

Marko was over-exhausted and used up all his oxygen and died on his way down the mountain after reaching the peak the same day.

The mountaineer was born on Sept. 21, 1959 and was a company clerk. His passport number is P00795724.

He arrived in China on April 7, 2005 with the Russian team.

The incident has already been informed to China Mountaineering Association, Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet Autonomous Region and Slovenian Embassy to China.
