Eight people were killed and a dozen others injured in a freeway accident taking place in east China's Jiangxi Province around 6 AM Saturday, local sources said.
The tragedy happened on Nanchang-Zhangshu Freeway as a truck loaded with rolled steel and stones heading for Zhangzhou from Yichun, both in Jiangxi, suddenly changed its lane without giving light signal, causing a follow-up sedan and bus clashed onto the truck.
Three of the five people in the sedan, including the car driver, and four other people in the bus were killed on the spot, while a dozen others were injured, according Yu Yaoping, a senior official with Jiangxi Provincial Traffic Control Bureau, who rushed to the site of the accident to organize the rescue operation.
One people in the accident died in the local hospital.
By press time, remainder of the injured, most of whom suffer from leg fractures, all remain in the local hospitals.
Cause of the accident is under further investigation.
