China's Ministry of Public Security Sunday rewarded a number of informers who have tipped police about pornographic websites since China launched a nationwide campaign to crack down on the illegal on-line operations this July.
The awards are either from 500-2,000 yuan (about US$ 60-240) or anti-virus software, according to the ministry.
As of October 8, police have received 42,055 tips, including 7,222 involving on-line porn. With the help of these informers, police shut down 1,125 porn sites and 290 other illegal operators engaged in gambling or swindling.
The information has also helped uncover 254 criminal cases and captured 445 suspects involved.
