No Report of Death from Tibet Earthquake

As of press time, there were still no reports of death or injury from the earthquake that jolted southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region Monday morning, local officials said.

A quake measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale struck the autonomous region's Zhongba county of Xigaze prefecture at 7:08 a.m.

The epicenter was at latitude 30.5 degrees north and longitude 83.4 degrees east, in the Gangdise Range, a high-altitude area with little human habitation about 100 kilometers north of the border of China and Nepal.

Officials said that figures on the death toll and damage, if any, will not be available for at least about 15 days because of the inconvenient traffic conditions.
