China imported 64,997 motor vehicles in the first four months, up 6.3 percent over the corresponding period last year, statistics from the Ministry of Commerce show.
The figure included 43,544 cars, up 27.6 percent year-on-year, and 10,766 off-road vehicles, down 37.4 percent.
According to statistics from Chinese customs, the nation imported US$5.664 billion worth of motor vehicles and components from January to April this year.
This included US$2.022 billion from complete vehicles, US$1.225 billion from key components, and US$2.417 billion from parts and accessories. (Xinhua News Agency May 19, 2004)
