A batch of busways made in Macao, the first duty-free products of its kind under the Mainland/Macao Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), left here on Monday for Shanghai.
Garry Moloney, a high-ranking executive of the busway company, told reporters that CEPA had reduced the costs of production and transportation, making his company's products more competitive on the market, adding that it is possible that "more and more foreign companies will produce in Macao".
Meanwhile, the Economic Service of the Macao Special Administrative Region said that it had so far issued six Certificates of Macao Origin and 41 certificates for "service suppliers" in Macao, which will help Macao manufacturers enjoy zero import tariff offered by the Chinese mainland.
Among the six Macao companies who have gotten Certificates of Macao Origin are manufacturers of plastic sacks, glue, busways, discs and so on. (Xinhua News Agency March 22, 2004)
