A trade union for local migrant workers has been set up in Xiangtan City in central China's Hunan Province. The union's committee is made up of 15 members, including 13 rural workers in the construction trade.
It will urge enterprises to pay workers on time, ensure production safety, improve workers' living conditions and help them obtain more opportunities for education and training.
In the past, migrant workers often faced problems of not getting paid on time or being dismissed want only as employers do not sign contracts with them.
Similar unions for migrant workers have also been established in several cities.
