Municipal enterprises in China's capital, Beijing, reported an international trade volume of US$15.05 billion in the first ten months this year, up 35.2 percent over the same period last year. Statistics released by Beijing Customs on Thursday show the trade volume included US$5.83 billion in exports and US$9.22 billion in imports, up 26.7 percent and 41.2 percent respectively.
Electromechanical products were the main export commodities, accounting for US$3.77 billion, or 64.7 percent, of the total export volume, up 32.1 percent on a year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, it imported US$6.98 billion worth of electromechanical products, or 75.7 percent of the total import volume, up 37 percent.
Most imported goods were from Asian countries and regions, reaching US$5.5 billion, 59.5 percent of the total import volume. Japan, the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong were the top three import partners of Beijing enterprises.
Europe remained the biggest export destination, with the total export volume reaching US$1.88 billion, up 89.9 percent year-on-year. (Xinhua News Agency November 14, 2003)
