China Tuesday launched an anti-dumping investigation into mostly-used optical fiber imported from the United States, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK), according to a bulletin issued by the Ministry of Commerce.
The target product, the dispersion unshifted single-mode optical fiber, accounted for about 70 percent of the total used optical fiber in the world, according to the ministry.
The ministry would prove the existence of dumping, the level of dumping scope and the damage caused to the domestic industry, the bulletin said.
The investigation was expected to last for one year and could be extended to 18 months if necessary, it said.
The case was initiated in response to complaints by two Chinese companies and was supported by major Chinese optical fiber producers, the ministry said.
Last year, China imported US$110 million worth of optical fiber from the United States, Japan and the ROK, according to the ministry.
