The Shanghai branch of China HP ( Hewlett-Packard) Ltd Corp was listed as the top of nearly 30,000 foreign-funded enterprises in terms of per-capita profits in Shanghai in official figures.
The figures released by the Commission of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation with Shanghai Municipal Government show the per-capita profit for HP Shanghai stood at 2.13 million yuan (259, US$000) in 2002, the highest among overseas-funded firms.
Zhou Yupeng, vice-mayor of Shanghai, said the use of overseas investment had been the top economic priority for Shanghai, and the city would strive to improve the investment environment for sustained and stable development for existing overseas firms.
The top 20 overseas-funded exporting firms in the city exported US$6.17 billion worth of products in 2002, up 31.5 percent over the previous year.
The top 20 overseas-funded firms in sales volume in Shanghai had a total business volume of 142.2 billion yuan (US$17.3 billion) in 2002, a year-on-year increase of 21.6 percent.
