China's completed investment in fixed assets was 4.32 trillion yuan (US$520.5 billion) in 2002, up 16.1 percent over the previous year, the highest growth rate since 1996, Commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics Zhu Zhixin announced Friday.
Zhu said the investment in fixed assets by state-owned and other enterprises grew by 17 percent over 2001, and the growth of investment in capital construction was 16.4 percent.
In 2002, the construction of key projects progressed smoothly, including the second phase of the Three Gorges project, the Qinghai-Tibet railway and the West-East electricity transmission project, Zhu said.
