The members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has become Shanghai's fourth largest trading partner, following the United States, Japan and the European Union.
Trade volume between the port of Shanghai and ASEAN was 12.19 billion US dollars last year, up approximately 30 percent from 2001, said local customs sources.
Import commodities from ASEAN member countries are mainly raw materials for industrial use, including natural rubber and primary plastics, information and technology products, the sources noted, whereas Shanghai's exports commodities including machinery and electronic products, textile yarns, fabrics and related products, garments and accessories, refined oil, and motorcycle and bike parts.
