Urban residents' average disposable income in Tianjin, north China, exceeded 10,000 yuan in 2002, up 11.6 percent from 2001.
The figure was released by the city's planning commission at the on-going 14th municipal people's congress.
In 2002, the city created about 100,000 job opportunities, 20,000 more than in 2001. The urban registered unemployment rate was 3.91 percent, lower than anticipated. The city's social security system was further improved and progress was made in reforming medical insurance for urban residents in the year.
In 2002, the city's retail consumption reached 94.1 billion yuan, up 13.1 percent from 2001.
