East China's Shanghai port reported US$81.8 billion worth of exports in 2002, an increase of 20.3 percent over the previous year, according to Shanghai Customs statistics.
Exports by foreign-funded enterprises jumped 26 percent to US$39.5 billion dollars, accounting for the largest portion of the exports.
State-owned enterprises followed closely with US$32.8 billion , up 6.1 percent year-on-year.
Exports to the United States rose 24.9 percent to US$17.5 billion in 2002, making the United States the largest destination of goods from the Shanghai port. Japan was a close second, with US$15.9 billion, up 8.2 percent.
Spurred by China's entry into the World Trade Organization, textile exports from Shanghai port jumped 30.6 percent to US$8.1 billion, and garments and accessories raised 10.9 percent to US$17.4 billion in 2001.
