Talent rental, or temporary employment of skilled professionals, has become a popular practice in Shenzhen, a booming special economic zone in south China's Guangdong Province.
Minghua Aohan Science and Technology Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen recently had its global marketing strategy and corporate structure designed by a short-term worker.
It paid the professional a large amount of money for his one month of service, but owed him nothing after the project was done.
Since the city legalized talent rental on Oct. 1, use of short-term employees in the city has run high. It covers a wide range offields, including software development, marketing, water supply and drainage engineering and civil work.
An official with the Xibu Human Resources Market, an employment agency in Shenzhen, said the market saw scores of short-term professionals hired in just one month. Many of the employers were big-name companies.
The official said in a recent survey, more than 2,000 people said they want to hire themselves on short-term basis.
