The north China port city of Tianjin has unveiled an ambitious plan to become a leading exporter of traditional Chinese medicine.
According to the plan, the city will become a modernized manufacturing base for traditional medicines with an annual export capacity of US$200 million and total sales of 24 billion yuan (US$2.9 billion) by the year 2010.
The city will encourage the development of local pharmaceutical companies along with further improvements in infrastructure building, distribution networks and technological innovation.
While trying to exploit domestic and international markets, the city will set up 800 traditional medicine stores by 2010.
