Housing Purchases Up 35.4%
China's sales volume for private house purchases registered a year-on-year increase of 35.4 percent in the first 10 months of the year.

According to the latest figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics, sales volume in this field reached 305.9 billion yuan (US$36.9 billion) from January to October.

During the period, the volume of apartment purchases was 259.6 billion yuan (US$31.4 billion), up 35.5 percent over the same period last year.

The statistics showed that a total of 129.8 million square meters of houses were sold in that period, 27.6 percent more than the same period last year. The average price was 2,357 yuan (US$284.7) per square meter.

However vacant homes grew by 10.8 percent compared with the same period last year due to the fast growth of construction projects, which totaled 134.64 million square meters from January to October this year.
