The number of phone users on the Chinese mainland has exceeded 400 million, reaching 404.89 million by the end of last month, China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) said in Beijing Friday.
By the end of October, the number of mobile phone subscribers hit 195.83 million and that of fixed phone users 209 million, an increase of 50.61 million and 28.69 million respectively compared with figures at the end of last year, according to the MII.
China reported the world's biggest phone ownership at the end of July this year when the number reached 380 million. By the end of July last year, China ranked first in the world in terms of mobile phone ownership with 120.6 million.
