China and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have agreed that the World Summit on Intellectual Property be held in Beijing in April 2003.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said at a press conference Thursday that it would be the first summit of the WIPO.
The summit would attract more international attention to intellectual property protection, deepen cooperation, and promote international understanding on China's efforts in protecting intellectual property, she said.
The WIPO and relevant Chinese departments were actively preparing for the event, Zhang added.
