Xiamen, a coastal city and important port of east China's Fujian Province, exported 1.183 billion US dollars worth of new and high-tech products in the first eight months of this year, 21.63 percent of the city's total exports for the period.
According to local customs sources, the export volume was 722 million US dollars or 156.92 percent higher than the level for the same period of last year.
More than three-quarters, or 896 million US dollars worth, of the total were exports of computers and telecommunication products, posing a year-on-year increase of 280 percent. The enviable growth was attributable to measures the municipal authorities have taken to encourage development of the city's IT sector, the sources said.
Of Xiamen's new and high-tech products exported from January to August, 94.6 percent, or 1.113 billion US dollars worth, were from foreign-funded enterprises.
