Tom.com Ltd. tried to buy Rupert Murdoch's stake in Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Ltd. as many as eight times this year, Bloomberg News said.
Tom.com and its banker Salomon Smith Barney wanted Liu Changle, Phoenix's controlling shareholder, to act as an intermediary and persuade Murdoch's News Corp. to sell its 38 percent stake in China's largest overseas-based broadcaster.
