China's nearly 80,000 qualified statisticians have been playing an increasingly vital role in the country's economic development and reform, said Zhu Zhixin, commissioner of the National Bureau of Statistics, in Beijing Wednesday.
A comprehensive national statistics information network, Zhu noted, has been set up by adding statistics offices in local governments above county level and survey teams in all villages, cities and enterprises.
The 80,000 statisticians had completed their major national surveys and provided a wealth of figures and analyses for local and central governments and offered an extensive social information service.
A modern national statistic information system has also been established and working methods are becoming more computer-network-oriented, Zhu said.
