GDP Up 7.8 Percent in First Half Year
China's gross domestic product (GDP) reached 4,553.6 billion yuan (US$551 billion) in the first half of this year, up 7.8 percent on a yearly basis, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Monday.

NBS Deputy Director Qiu Xiaohua said at a news briefing that China's GDP increased by 7.6 percent and 8 percent in the first and second quarter of this year, respectively.

The achievement has laid a sound foundation for realizing the goal for a 7-percent economic growth set for the whole of this year, Qiu said.
