The per-capita GDP of the Pudong New Area in Shanghai Municipality, east China, is expected to exceed US$7,000 this year, according to official statistics.
In the first five months of this year, the area's GDP was 45.41billion yuan (5.46 billion US dollars), up 14.9 percent over the same period last year.
Hi-tech products now account for 48.5 percent of Pudong's industrial output.
In the first five months this year, Pudong's exports reached 5.05 billion yuan (609 million US dollars), up 12.5 percent over thecorresponding period last year.
By the end of May, the area had a total of 7,923 foreign-fundedprojects, with total foreign capital of 40.1 billion US dollars.
Meanwhile, investors from other parts of the country have set up 6,489 companies in the area, with total capital of 34.78 billion yuan (4.19 billion US dollars).
