China has become one of the world's largest markets and production bases for lighting products and has a high domestic demand for high-tech lighting products, according to experts.
Liu Shengping, general secretary of the China Lighting ElectricEquipment Association, said the technology used in lighting products has a great potential.
With the country's rapid urbanization and development of the western region, Chinese people are spending more buying lighting products not only for illumination but also for decoration.
Statistics released by the association shows that the country'simport of lighting products in 2000 was worth 200 million U.S. dollars, and in 2001, it rose to 290 million U.S. dollars.
In recent years, some prestigious global enterprises have poured huge sums into China to produce high-tech illuminating products. The sales of Philip in China's mainland reached 1.59 billion yuan in 2001.
Domestic enterprises are also vigorously introducing advanced technologies overseas and improving their traditional production skills in a bid to gain a competitive edge.
