Shenzhen, which faces Hong Kong across a local river, has produced 100,000 different sorts of toys, accounting for 70 percent of the world's total.
Sources from local customs show that each day they handle 300 containers of imported raw materials for processing of toys and another 40 containers containing ready-made toys for export.
The number of toy-making businesses in Shenzhen, also one of the country's five special economic zones, is 1,000.
Mai Qingzhao, secretary-general of the city's toy industry association, said that if Shenzhen wants to keep its edge in the world toy market, toy makers should concentrate on making top-quality, technologically advanced, low-cost toys.
