Taiwan-based AU Optronics Corp. (TAIEX: 2409; NYSE: AUO) Thursday announced that its preliminary consolidated revenues in September 2005 reached NT$21,935 million (US$660.8 million), a record high for the third consecutive month.
AUO's unconsolidated net sales totaled NT$21,934 million (US$660.76 million). Driven primarily by shipments of large-sized panels (10 inches and above in diagonal measurement) for applications such as desktop monitor, notebook PC, LCD TV and other applications, the new record reached a high of 2.79 million, a 2.2 percent increase over the previous month. Shipments of small- and medium-sized panels (below 10 inches) also totaled 7.40 million, up 29 percent.
Preliminary shipments of large-sized panels in the third quarter reached 7.97 million, up 13.2 percent over the previous quarter, while shipments for small- and medium-sized panels rose 48.7 percent to reach 17.58 million. Unit sales across the board exceeded third quarter guidance which was provided on August 3, 2005, primarily contributed by the new capacity from the smooth ramp-up of AUO's Gen. 6 fab.
In the third quarter, preliminary consolidated and unconsolidated revenues totaled NT$59.505 billion (US$1.7926 billion) and NT$59,500 million (US$1.7924 billion) respectively, both representing 28.7 percent growth.
AU Optronics Corp. is a major manufacturer of large-size thin film transistor liquid crystal display panels (TFT-LCD), with net income of NT$168.1 billion (US$5.3 billion) in 2004.
