China's securities regulator plans a detailed survey of the broking industry.
The China Securities Regulatory Commission will use results of its survey of more than 100 of the country's brokerages to develop long-term plans for the industry.
A deputy director of the commission says the census, part of China's economic census, is aimed at assessing the entire industry and finding solutions to the problems in the sector.
The securities watchdog has pledged not to use results from the probe to punish those that will be examined.
