A unit of South Korea's top mobile operator SK Telecom has won the business license for a mobile phone manufacturing joint venture in China.
With 60 percent stakes in the new company, SK Teletech is aiming for 100 million US dollars in revenues next year and more than 600 million US dollars by 2007.
The joint venture with two Chinese partners, Datang Telecom & Tech company and Tiandi Group Telecom Industry company, targets the high-end mobile phone market and supply phones for code division multiple access mobile networks in China.
SK Teletech, armed with its parent's technological expertise and financial muscle, hopes to become one of the world's top 10 mobile phone makers by 2007, emulating the rapid growth of South Korea's Samsung and LG.
