Lawmakers Visit Capital Lawyers

A group of national legislators visited Beijing lawyers on Monday to check on how effectively existing laws are implemented, as well as their working environment and management.

The team, led by Vice-Chairperson Gu Xiulian of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, heard reports on the enforcement of laws and regulations by the city's judicial administration, higher people's court, higher people's procuratorate, and public security bureau.

The city's lawyers' association and local lawyers also gave their opinions and suggestions about problems that currently hamper their work.

In her speech, Gu spoke highly of the role of local lawyers in helping to ensure social stability, promote justice, and protect people’s rights.

Gu urged lawyers and judicial officials to increase mutual exchange and understanding.

She said they share the same aspiration to protect the rights of the people involved in their cases and ensure judicial justice.
