After a weeklong meeting, a delegation from northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Sunday signed a summary of talks with its counterpart from Russia’s Far East on further border cooperation in police affairs.

The meeting was "successful and laid a solid foundation for promoting bilateral cooperation in a down-to-earth manner," said Sun Bangnan, deputy director of Heilongjiang’s public security bureau.

The Russian delegation consisted of national security representatives as well as those from four local prefectures, including Khabarovsk and Amur in the frontier areas.

The Chinese delegation included the international cooperation department of the Ministry of Public Security and the public security bureaus of the northeastern provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning.

During the meeting, which began on June 13, the two sides exchanged views on increasing exchange of information on cross-border crimes and cooperation in case handling and protection of citizens in both countries.

In the wake of building a strategic partnership, trade, economic and scientific cooperation between China and Russia has improved. To crack down on cults, arms and drug trafficking and other criminal activities more effectively, Heilongjiang has teamed up with Russian authorities in investigating, locating and transferring suspects.

Last year, they established regular high-profile meetings, mechanisms to combat transnational crimes, information exchange and a liaison team.
