EU: No to China-made Trousers Shipped from July 12

The European Union (EU) will give no import permissions on China-made trousers shipped from July 12, according to the official website of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on Sunday.

According to a notice sent to the MOFCOM by the German Association of Importers of Finished Goods, the new data released by the European Commission showed that as at 11:55 PM August 9, the export volume of China-made trousers to the EU had exceeded the maximum 104,405,000 agreed on in June by the two sides.

A European Commission spokesman said that the EU will not give any import permissions on China-made trousers shipped from July 12. According to the notice, those shipped before July 11 can still enter the European market.

China and the EU reached an agreement on June 11 that the EU would stop investigation proceedings into ten categories of textile products from China. A consensus was also reached on annual growth of exports of the ten categories into the European market -- between 8 percent and 12.5 percent from June 11, 2005 to the end of 2007 on an agreed base quantity.
