China's netizens are voicing their objections to pornography on the Web. Since its June 10 launch, a special website for reporting pornography and other illegal online activity, has received 1,344 complaints about pornographic materials.
Net.China.cn, the URL for the China Reporting Center of Illegal and Unhealthy Information, sorts complaints and forwards them to the appropriate law enforcement departments if such action is warranted.
Those departments have already closed five pornographic sites and ordered one to close within two days. Four Beijing-based websites have voluntarily deleted pornographic materials after the center informed them of the complaints.
Many people, especially parents, are applauding the opening of the website.
"It's good for fostering a healthy environment for the growth of our kids," said one netizen.
The Work Committee of the Internet News Information Service under the Internet Society of China established the website.
