Chinese Diplomats Visit Injured Chinese in N. Korea

Chinese diplomats from the Chinese embassy in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have visited the six overseas Chinese injured in the train explosion in Ryongchon.

The diplomats conveyed the Chinese government's concern to the injured and expressed thanks to DPRK's doctors and nurses. They also assessed the property damage of the overseas Chinese in the disaster and gave relief items to them.

Chinese President Hu Jintao, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Russian President Vladimir Putin all expressed condolences to the DPRK.

The first batch of humanitarian aid goods from China has arrived in the DPRK.

The goods include 2,000 blankets, 300 tents, food items and other relief materials.

China is the first foreign country to deliver relief goods to the DPRK.

The Chinese government offered Saturday some 1.2 million dollars in aid to North Korea after a Thursday train explosion killed at least 154 people and injured more than 1,300 in the country.

According to the official Korean Central News Agency, Thursday's train explosions in North Korea were caused by electric sparks during the shunting of wagons loaded with ammonium nitrate fertilizer.
