All Set for 16th CPC National Congress: Spokesman
All preparatory work has been completed and everything is ready for the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), scheduled for November 8 to 14, said Ji Bingxuan, spokesman for the Party congress, at a press conference on Thursday.

The spokesman briefed the media persons on the preparatory meeting of the 16th Party Congress and the first meeting of the Congress Presidium, both held in the Great Hall of the People on Thursday afternoon.

The preparatory meeting set the agenda for the Party congress and elected a 236-member Presidium of the Congress, said Ji. The meeting also elected Hu Jintao as secretary-general of the Party Congress, he added.

The first Presidium meeting decided that Ding Guangen, Luo Gan, Zeng Qinghong and Wang Gang serve as deputy secretaries-general of the Party congress, Ji said.

The spokesman said that the 16th CPC National Congress would be followed by the First Plenum of the 16th CPC Central Committee, at which a new term of CPC central leadership would be elected.

After the Plenum, newly elected Standing Committee members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee will meet foreign and Chinese journalists, he said.
