A "Science & China" lecturing program began Monday in Peking University, with Zhou Guangzhao, former president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) delivering the first lecture on the development of physics.

According to Lu Yongxiang, CAS president, academicians from the CAS and the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) will give a series of lectures to the public across the country in the next two to three years.

The program, organized by the CAS, CAE, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology and other governmental departments, aims to raise the public's awareness of science.

The target audience includes college students, government officials, researchers, and the general public.

The lecturers will review the history of science and technology, their latest developments, and their role in economic and social development.
