Media Urged to Raise Awareness of Upcoming Party Congress
Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Wednesday called on the country's mass media to create a sound atmosphere for the Party's upcoming congress.

Addressing a national conference attended by heads of CPC publicity and organization departments at central and provincial levels, Jiang said a sound atmosphere for the congress was important and the top priority of the Party's publicity and ideological work.

The Political Bureau of the Party's Central Committee has proposed that the Party's 16th National Congress be convened from November 8.

Jiang urged the media to show the public that the CPC always represents the development of China's advanced productive forces, the orientation of China's advanced culture and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

He called for more efforts to publicize China's progress over the past two decades under the CPC leadership.

Jiang spoke highly of the performance of the Party's publicity and organization departments at various levels.

Among those present at the August 26-28 conference were Ding Guangen, head of the CPC Central Committee Publicity Department, and Zeng Qinghong, head of the CPC Central Committee Organization Department.
