China Telecom, China’s largest telecommunication operator, only accounted for 50.5 percent of the market in the first half of the year, down 1.2 percent from the end of last year, eastday.com reported today.
According to the Ministry of Information Industry, the Chinese telecom market is restructuring after China Telecom lost its monopoly. China Mobile, the largest mobile communication operator, recorded a 36.7 percent market share in the first quarter of the year, a drop of 1.5percent on the previous quarter. Several new telecom firms enjoyed growing market shares, with China Unicom enjoying 11.3 percent share of the market, up one percent from the end of last year. China Satellite Communications, China Netcom, China Jitong Network Communications Co Ltd and China Raicom, claim the remaining 1.6 percent of the market.
According to the Ministry of Information Industry, China Mobile accounts for nearly 80 percent of the country's mobile phone revenue, with its proportion of users reaching 70.4 percent.
China Unicom accounts for 20.2 percent of mobile phone revenue and claims 29.6percent of mobile users. China Telecom has accounted for 60.8percent of the Internet Protocol (IP) market, China Mobile has 22.6 percent of the market, China Unicom makes-up 10.5 percent,and the proportions for China Netcom and China Jitong Network Communications Co Ltd are 3.5 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.
