Chinese President Jiang Zemin Friday visited the headquarters of Volkswagen AG here and witnessed the signing of an agreement between the German automobile giant and its Chinese cooperation partner.
Jiang visited the western German city 24 years ago.
The Chinese president, accompanied by Minister-President Sigmar Gabriel of Lower Saxony state, was shown around the assembly line and other workshops of the German carmaker.
Then he attended a signing ceremony for an agreement on revising and extending the joint venture between Volkswagen AG and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. The cooperation between the two sides will be extended until 2030. Volkswagen boasts the biggest automobile share on the Chinese market.
Jiang is scheduled to wrap up his six-day visit to Germany and leave for Libya on Saturday.
