Twenty-two famous Chinese scientists have proposed to protect the Great Wall, a symbol of China, by planting trees, grass and caring the vegetation along its both sides, according to report of China Daily.
They hope to turn the ancient Great Wall into a green belt where people can trace Chinese ancient culture and spend their holiday.
According to China Great Wall Society secretary-general Dong Yaohui, also the first expert hitch-hiking the whole Great Wall, only one-third of the wall is reasonably preserved. Another one third has been partially destroyed while the rest has disappeared, he said.
The "green project" designed to protect the Great Wall will help fend against strong winds and stabilize the sand.
By now, to green the Great Wall has become the common concern of the society at large, with more and more people devoting to improving the biological environment near the Great Wall.
