I don't see how a plane can be declared sovereign territory. If the plane is now on Chinese territory, one could see this as an effective invasive action. If the US was so concerned about the plane and its equipment, then they should have ditched it in the sea. China has every right to be suspicious. Peaceful relations could be maintained if such 'spying' activities were restrained. The Bush administration must learn that it cannot stick its nose where it wants. China must keep the plane compounded, but the crew must be released soon.

I really felt extremely angry at the American's acts. How could they do like this in disregard of other country's sovereignty and people's wish to establish a peaceful world. The USA never stops violating other countries and interfering other country's internal affairs. The American people are also cheated and fooled by their own so-called democratic government. Their government has called on them to establish a peaceful and quiet world, while most of the chaos was caused by themselves. We Chinese should join hands together to conquer the power of violation and guard the peace of the whole world.

well, now I am not sure whether china or U.S should bear the full responsibility of the collision in the mid-air, however I reckon the Chinese should have the right to conduct a full scale investigation both inside the plane and outside the plane. U.S has no rights to stop the Chinese to search the plane since it has landed on the Chinese soiled. It is just like your children smash your neighbor’s windows with a ball and you ridiculously turn back onto your neighbors and blame them for build their window there. it is absolutely ridiculous, (the EP-3 is American’s sovereign territory why should it land on the Chinese soil)

The general attitude in this discussion board reflects exactly why the U.S. foreign policy is so misguided and simply wrong. By "policing" the rest of the world we only make more enemies and are not even wanted by most of the people we intend to "help". We need to step back and take away all the foreign aid we give to other countries at the expense of U.S. taxpayers. Once that is done we can then bring back all our American troops involved in peacekeeping missions around the world.

I very much agree... President Bush has taken the stand of treating China as a competitor and not a partner, and as such he must bear the responsibility that comes with his military's unfriendly actions. Whether the aircraft was in international airspace or not, the fact remains that the U.S. would doubtfully allow Chinese military aircraft some 70 miles off the US coast, so they can hardly defend their position that they had the right to be there. To do so would be hypocritical. I hope the U.S. president will not use this as an excuse to deteriorate relations further but instead to realize that there are more constructive ways to achieve a prosperous relation with the Chinese government and it's people.

We commend the Chinese Government in it's stance against American interference and it's spying on other Sovereign Countries. It's about time Countries the World over stood up to America's bully boy tactics and gave them the bloody nose they so richly deserve. China has every right not only to inspect the offending aircraft but also to confiscate it altogether.

To me this flight was a blatant violation of another nations sovereignty. How would our government react to a similar flight over our national territory? They would be outraged just as the People's Republic of China is now. This spills over into other areas as well. Our government routinely interferes in elections in South America but how they howl when some Chinese try to buy a little influence in our election. It is tit for tat but politicians do no see it. They are historically blind.

I think US this time had went to far. They should change their attitude. After the cold war, they had replaced Russia by China. They want to keep their world leadership. They don't want China to beat them. Everything they do is right, they are always the good guys. They tried to attack China by all means, like human rights, Tibet and etc. Since 20 years ago when China first opened its door, a lot had changed, this cannot be denied. You have to give it time. you can't expect it to be good in a blink of eyes of time. USA and some western country knew that China is "sleeping lion or dragon", and had seen what it can do in a short time.
