Cop film "Overheard" premiered in Hong Kong on Tuesday, five days after its successful opening on the mainland.

The Hong Kong flick grossed more than ten million yuan on its opening day in the mainland film market, topping the first day box office earnings of all Hong Kong crime films here so far.

Starring some of Hong Kong's A-list actors, including Lau Ching-Wan, Daniel Wu and Louis Koo, the film tells a story of three cops whose greed gets them trapped in a fraudulent stock investment during the investigation of a multi-million financial crime.

Lead actress Zhang Jingchu is optimistic, saying at the premiere that it would be a piece of cake for the film to rake in more than one hundred million yuan. Lead actors Lau Ching-Wan and Louis Koo care most about the comments from moviegoers.

Hong Kong's cops-and-robbers films enjoyed a peak era in the early 1990s, with a number of outstanding industry icons emerging from these films, such as director John Woo and actor Chou Yun-fat. Despite a symbol of the Hong Kong film industry, the popularity of this type of films has wavered over the last decade.
