The highly-anticipated "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" opens for Chinese audiences with a special midnight screening on June 24 , to coincide with the film's global release.

Trailers for the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster sci-fi film have boasted a dazzling array of robotic action sequences, along with some Chinese elements that have appealed to local audiences.

In the latest episode, Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg return as director and executive producer respectively, while leading man Shia LaBeouf and actress Megan Fox return as a screen couple caught in the war between Autobots and Decepticons.

The new Transformers film introduces many more robots and the scope has been expanded to numerous countries, most notably France, Egypt and Shanghai, China.

It is set to be one of the most explosive movies ever after receiving unprecedented support from the US army to shoot dramatic battle scenes between the robots and the military.

The original had grossed 700 million dollars worldwide in box office and this sequel is expected to do equally well.

Despite a lack of any large-scale promotion in China, fervent Transformer fans have been greatly looking forward to the first domestic showing.

Tickets for this big-budget film have been selling like hot cakes with many prime time showings selling out in Chinese theaters, according to local media reports. This has resulted in some cinemas extending film screening times to meet the surging demand.
