Since then Katie has become a regular in China. She speaks fluent Mandarin and writes and performs in both English and Chinese. She now shares her time between Hong Kong and Beijing, where she has an apartment, and she plans to be in China for the long-term.

"I would like to be a credible artiste here – to write and perform in Chinese and English. A friend spoke to me about ‘the evergreens' of Chinese music and song, and that is what I would like to become."

It is to be hoped that Katie's Chinese fans will respond to her generosity of heart by supporting the Day by Day project, and through it some of the innocent and deserving young victims of the Sichuan earthquake.

Day by Day can be downloaded from Katie's website: www.kt-a.com, where instructions can be found to make a donation to Shumeng Golden Bridges charity, http://goldenbridges.org/shumeng/?page_id=5.
